Black Blood

Potion · Patch 4.04

Witcher's blood injures vampires and necrophages when they wound him. 15% Damage returned.

Where to get the diagram

  • Base Black Blood — sold by Keira Metz (during her questline in Velen), Otto Bamber at the Herbalist's Hut northeast of Oxenfurt, or Gremist at Gedyneith.
  • Enhanced Black Blood — sold by the Eternal Fire Priest in Electors' Square, the herbalist in a shop on Glory Lane, or Yolar at Gedyneith.
  • Superior Black Blood — sold by Gremist at Gedyneith or Yolar at Gedyneith.

How it works

Black Blood returns a portion of melee damage back to vampires and necrophages when they wound Geralt. The more hits you take, the more damage you reflect — so it rewards a playstyle where you can afford to trade blows rather than avoid them entirely.

Base, Enhanced, and Superior

All tiers reflect damage when vampires or necrophages wound you; higher tiers return more. Each upgrade adds:

  • Enhanced — enemies are knocked back when they hit you.
  • Superior — nearby vampires and necrophages start Bleeding just by being close to Geralt, without you taking a hit.

The Superior version shines against large groups — a pack of drowners near you will all begin bleeding without you needing to eat hits first, which can melt a swarm quickly.

Build synergies

Black Blood pairs best with high vitality and regeneration — you soak damage, reflect it back, and recover quickly enough to stay in the fight.

With Refreshment slotted, drinking Black Blood also restores a chunk of health on use, adding sustain on top of its offensive upside.

It is a poor fit alongside heavy damage reduction: Mutated Skin and Protective Coating both cut incoming damage, which means fewer reflected hits and less value from the potion.
