Where to get the recipe

The manuscript is unlocked by reading Ghouls and Alghouls. Buy the book from Marcus T.K. Hodgson at his shop in Hierarch Square in Novigrad, or from other local book merchants — reading it from your inventory automatically adds the recipe.

How it works

Alghoul decoction raises Adrenaline Point gain by 50% until you take your first successful enemy hit. If the effect ends that way, you need to leave and re-enter combat to trigger it again.

Parrying does not count as taking a hit. A Quen shield breaking and the residual damage reaching Geralt does.

The buff shines in fights where you can dodge reliably — single enemies or bosses where you control how often you get hit.

Build synergies

It fits adrenaline-heavy setups, which show up in most builds to some degree — but at 50 toxicity, there are often cheaper ways to generate Adrenaline Points. A single hit ends the bonus, so Maribor Forest is frequently the better pick when you just need faster gain.

Resolve pairs especially well: use the decoction window to build to 3 Adrenaline Points without getting hit, then lean on Resolve so you keep those points when damage eventually lands.

Crafting

• Buckthorn — found while diving underwater.
• Alghoul bone marrow — guaranteed drop from alghouls and ghoul monster nests.
• Lesser red mutagen — rarer than the other two colors; drops from stronger, rarer monsters.
